15 14 anthemis nobilis Also known as Roman Chamomile, Manzanilla Spanish for little apple, Maythen, Common Chamomile, Ground Apple and Kamai Greek, the white flowers have a yellow centre harvest them with the leaves in July and August. An infusion of the flowers and leaves is an ideal tonic for children, healing nervous excitability, anxiety and insomnia. The same infusion relieves toothache, earache, indigestion and headaches due to gastric disturbances. It can also be used as a mouthwash for gingivitis, for bathing inflamed or sore eyes, as a gargle for sore throats, for wound healing and to reduce swellings. It can additionally be used as a poultice. Chamomile has a beneficial effect on the womb, and can be used for PMT, menstrual cramps, to regulate menstrual periods and to ease the pain of childbirth. Bathing in a decoction will take away weariness. An oil made from the flowers is good for aches and pains in the joints or any part of the body, and for hard swellings. Chamomile quietens, relaxes and centres a person. Use it whenever you need to feel nourished and nurtured. It can be used safely with babies it is good for colic, children and the elderly.
