Crop Circles

34 The Goodworth Clatford formation introduced a design type which perhaps reached its zenith at Clanfield just nine days later. At Clanfield, a ring of circles of various diameters was organised into an implicitly triangular array. The ring, in passing through the twelve perimeter circles, made a division between standing and laid crop, or, as shown in the drawing, black and white. The closely planted wheat was a perfect canvas for this unique design. A month later in Fareham it was developed into a fivefold geometry though without the stylistic perfection of Clanfield. The 1999 Chilcombe Down formation was part of the same school. The farmer had made a track through his wheatfield to give access to a planned rock festival. The formation acknow ledged the track by a subtle modification to its lower petal.
