Crop Circles

20 CreaTures and thought bubbles Early in 1994 the West Kennett Scorpion appeared in the muchvisited field directly opposite Silbury Hill. This surprisingly figurative diagram had a thorax formed of a classic Celtic Cross. A dragonfly larva at Barbury Castle was followed by the 500 foot Bishops Cannings formation longer than the height of Big Ben. One of the largest formations seen at that time it was assumed to be another scorpion, although many felt that it was more like a dragonfly, its transparent wings undrawn. Nothing like the Thought Bubbles had been seen before the 1994 season. A curving line of circles, increasing in size, ended with a large head often incorporating a crescent or moon within it. Thought Bubbles occurred exclusively on steep hillsides and the smallest circles were always at the bottom of the slope, growing in size as they ascended.
