Ancient British Rock Art
30 31 The complex and diverse arrangement of carvings on the facing page was revealed after a great deal of time spent carefully brushing away a thick layer of pine needles. There are two main outcrops at this location, which is probably best known for the rosette design below. A good mixture of styles is present and some unusual beak motifs are attached to cups and rings. Some of the carvings are quite deep, up to one and a half inches, and the larger rings measure about a foot in diameter. This site now lies in a small clearing, deep in the forest, and is not easy to find without some direction as many of the forest roads have been relocated. The rosette design is interesting in the fact that seven and eleven cups are enclosed and separated in this specific style. This poses the question of the significance of these numbers and what informed these decisions. rosEttE whEELs wIth cups Ormaig, Argyllshire. Ormaig, Argyllshire Ormaig, ArgyllshireChris Mansell
